Malpe: Director General and Inspector General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachau has said that a Marine Police Training Academy would come up at Othinene in Byndoor in order to train the cops serving the Coastal Security Police Stations across nine coastal states of the nation.
Pachau who visited Udupi district on June 29, Thursday said 100 acres land has been identified for the purpose. Along with senior police officials and district administration officials, the DG visited the Coastal Security Police Station at Malpe and inspected the security speed boats.
Pachau said the state government was giving more importance to ensure protection of the state’s coast and added four more Coastal Security Police stations have been sanctioned in addition to the already five stations. The new stations would come up at Hejamady, Gangolli, Belekeri and Honavar, he informed. He also added that 220 additional police personnel would be appointed.
Proposals have also been submitted to set up jetties at seven places, he informed.
IGP Bhasker Rao, Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy, ADGP Harshavardhana Raju, SP Boralingaiah,Coastal Security Police SP Vitobha V Gaonkar and others were present.
