Mangalore : A recent directive from the Mayor Gulzar Banu to MCC officials with regard to the ongoing raids on unauthorized establishments in the city, has invited some criticism as it was reported in the media that the mayor had instructed officials to inform her well before hand prior to undertaking any raids.
However, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar clarified on the issue at the MCC meeting on Saturday and said the mayor’s statement had been misinterpreted and that she had asked the official to only keep her updated regarding the raids. He also made it clear that none of the elected representatives including the mayor are informed in advance prior to undertaking any raid and that there was also no rule that the mayor has to be informed in advance.
He said the drive would continue as it has come to the notice of the MCC that there were a lot of unauthorized establishments in the city..
On the increasing cases of Malaria and dengue in the city, the Commissioner said the MCC has ensured adequate precautionary measures against the spread of the diseases. He also informed that the MCC has appointed 72 staff to look into the situation of stagnation of water near construction sites and lack of cleanliness in hotels.
