Kasargod:  Dr Sadananda Perla Programme Executive of Mangalore Akashavani has urged the Kannur University to open a journalism department in Kasargod Government College.

Speaking after inaugurating Kannada Patrika Din at the Kannada Bhavan Library at Nullippadi by displaying a copy of the Sri Saraswathi Patrike brought out by Sri Bhikshu Lakshmanananda Saraswathi Swamiji, he said mass media are like a mirror of the society. He said newspapers play a very important role in making the society strong and healthy.

Journalists Pradeep Bekal and Chandramohan were honoured on the occasion. Subbanna Shetty K, veteran journalist and Ratnaker Mallamoole, Kannada Lecturer in Government College, spoke on contemporary journalism.

Several journalists, Shivaram Kasargod, President of Karavali Sanskritika Pratishtana and others were present on the occasion.
