Mangalore: Over 4000 students from various higher primary and high schools of the district, had converged at the Pilikula Regional Science Centre to display their talents in the field of Science, as part of a five –day science exhibition organized by the Department of Public Instructions. This is the first ever Inspire Award Science Exhibition by the Department.
Zilla Panchayat President KT Shailaja Bhat inaugurated the exhibition. In her address, she highlighted the role of teachers in encouraging the latent talent in the children.
MLA Abhayachandra Jain presided over the function. Deputy Director of Public Instruction Mosses Jayashekhar said that the participants selected for the state-level will be given mementos and certificates by the Public Instruction department. Around 140 models from the exhibition will be selected for the state-level exhibition. The programme is funded by the Union Science and Technology ministry.
. Pilikula Nisargadhama Director J R Lobo, Teachers’ Training Institute Principal Philomena Lobo, ZP Member Yashwanthi Alva, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Mosses Jayashekhar, Education Officer Sadanand Punja were among others present.
Some of the attractive models displayed at the event included a city with streetlights which switches on and off automatically depending upon the sunlight. This interesting model was designed by Savijna and Rakshitha who are students of Kumpala Government School Tokkottu.
A communication system which alerts the land owner in case of any transgression or a fire mishap, was developed by Gladline Crasta from St Raymond’s High School. Deeksha had a model of solar cooker which works with the help of mirrors. Then there was an alarm system which alerted a user of gas leakage. This was developed by Akash of Government School at Madhya.
