Mangalore : Various School students from Dakshina Kannada district have gathered to pay tributes to martyrs of the freedom struggle on the 68th anniversary of “Quit India Movement”, at Tagore Park on August 9, Monday.
Speaking after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr KN Vijayprakash, Commissioner of MCC said that Mahatma Gandhi gave the challenge to the British to leave the country.
He further added that, at present days people are giving more attention to religious function and ignoring national festival. The ‘Quit India’ Movement is an important chapter in Indian history as Mahatma Gandhi gave a decisive diktat to the British to ‘Quit India’ this day in 1942.
A Sadananda Shetty presided over the programme. Dr Ismail, Principal, Badriya PU College, welcomed the gathering.
Various competitions have been conducted for the students of primary and high school level by Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation as a part of function.
