Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has taken the alleged fund embezzlement in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS) quite seriously as was evident with him directing all taluk panchayat executive officers in the district to get the misappropriated funds reimbursed within a month.
Kateel who presided over the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at Netravati Hall in Zilla Panchayat on July 5, Thursday, said only Rs 7.85 lakh of the total Rs 20 lakh that has been misappropriated, has been recovered so far.
He also exhorted the officials to ensure all precautionary measures against fund misuse. The TP executive officers present in the meeting also provided details of the funds utilized in the scheme in various taluks.
It was also informed at the meeting that under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana it has been proposed to develop 85 km of road. An official informed that 38 km stretch of road from Maani to Kavu on the Maani-Sampaje stretch has been completed while the rest would be taken up after monsoons.
On the Malavaoor dam which developed problems resulting in flash floods recently, the MP said the dam be repaired utilizing funds from the Natural Calamity Relief Fund.
