Udupi: Udupi Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde has urged Union Railway Minister to extend the night train on Yashwanthpur-Bangalore-Mangalore route to Karwar.
The MP has also furnished to the minister statistics pertaining to number of passengers towards Kannur and to Mangalore and pointed out that the number of passengers towards Kannur was very less and was only incurring losses to the railways.
The Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha had earlier made an appeal to the MP to draw the attention of the railway minister towards this demand.
The Yatri Sangha President RL Dayas and others had met the MP at the Udupi District Congress Bhavan and reminded him of the High Court order two years ago agreeing to the demand for the extension of the train to Karwar and also that 10 bogies of the train on reaching Mangalore can be diverted towards Karwar and seven towards Kannur.
Former minister Vasanth Salian and MLA Gopal Poojari were also present.
