Udupi: Several places across the shoreline in Udupi district are facing problems due to acute sea erosion. The problem is grave at Muloor near Kaup in Udupi District, near Udyavara Padukere ; Kodi and Maravanthe of Kundapur taluk.
In Kaup, the sea has advanced by 25 metres and several coconut trees have been uprooted.
At Padukere a road is in danger. Residents in the vicinity are spending sleepless nights not knowing when the mighty tidal waves would wash away their houses along with the huge boulders dumped on the sea shore since the past several years to avert sea erosion.
This year there is also a technical hurdle in getting funds for sea erosion prevention works, says former MLA Vasanth Salian.
It seems the bills of the temporary works undertaken last year has not yet been cleared by the government and that fresh funds could not be released until pending bills are settled.
Politicians as is their usual habit enjoy visiting the sea erosion affected areas as they get due publicity in the process. But what about the plight of the common man ?
