Bangalore: Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has assured the state assembly that the government would ensure the strictest action against those responsible for the attack on students at a home stay at Padil in Mangalore.
Replying to a debate in the assembly on Monday, Shettar informed that already eight Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists have been arrested and added that the government has given the police department a free hand to investigate the case. He said the perpetrators of the attack will be jailed for ten years in case the charges are proved.
He also promised that the government would take all possible steps to avert such attacks in future.
On the other hand, opposition parties made a strong case for banning Hindu outfits like Jagarana Vedike, Sri Rama Sena and Bhajrangdal. Another demand placed forth by them was for the resignation of home minister Ashok owning moral responsibility for the incident.
Opposition members staged a walk out when their demand went unheard of.
State Minister for Higher Education and DK District in-charge Minister CT Ravi said the government will leave no stone unmoved in initiating action against the perpetrators of the attack.
