Bangalore: Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has informed that an all party delegation would be taken to the Central government in order to mount pressure on the government to ban import of foreign areca.
Shettar, participating in a debate on the issue in the assembly said the areca price has nosedived due to the rise in import of areca.
Earlier, raising the issue during zero hour, former CM BS Yeddyurappa has urged the government to respond to the demand of areca growers. Yeddyurappa also demanded formation of an Areca Board to come to the aid of areca growers.
Shettar said the delegation from the state would meet prime minister Manmohan Singh and Central Commerce Minister.
