Mangalore: At the SC ST grievance redressal meeting held in Mangalore on August 5, Sunday, some Dalit leaders alleged that those registering cases of atrocities on Dalits are suppressed by the cops by registering counter cases against them.
Speaking on the issue, L Shekhar, President of the Dalita Hakkugala Horata Samithi said Dinesh Naik, a Dalit youth who had filed a case against a few jeep driver of Ujire a year ago was attacked a few days ago by a group of assailants.
He said the attackers have now filed a counter complaint alleging Dinesh had robbed them of Rs 500.
He said the cases filed by Dalits prove to be of no use when cops accept even false counter complaints. Reacting to this SP Abhishek Goel said the police cannot be blamed for this.
ASP Anucheth however confirmed that only one counter case was registered in Beltangady this year.
P Anand, DSS leader demanded that the police give priority in redressing complaints registered by Dalits.
