Mangalore: District Congress Committee President B Ramanath Rai flagged of the ‘Peace March’ organized by District Congress Party from Mahatma Gandhi Statue, Lalbagh to the DC office on August 13, Monday.
Addressing the protestors, Manjula Naidu president of the State Women’s Congress said that Mangalore was known for its educational institutions, but from past four years it has been known for communal and moral policing.
She also said that young girls and women are been harassed and attacked in the name of culture and the members of Sangha Parivars are taking law in their hands through the moral police act.
Speaking on the recent homestay attack, she said that it has brought shame to city after the members of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike acting as moral police to save the so called Hindu culture. We need to fight to cut down the tree of moral policing sowed by Muthalik.
President of State Mahila Congress Manjula Naidu, MLA Dinesh Gundurao and Ramanath Rai garlanded the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Lalbagh.
KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza welcomed the gathering.
Later the members of the Womens’ Congress Party burnt the report, which was submitted by C Manjula, chairperson of State Women Rights Commission after the visit at the Homestay.
