Shimoga : Karnataka State Women’s Commission chairperson C Manjula  on Thursday said that she stood by her report on the Mangalore homestay attack and there was no question of changing it.

The Commission condemns the attack on a group of youngsters at Morning Mist Homestay at Padil on the outskirts of Mangalore recently, she told media persons here.

As many as 22 men have been arrested in connection with the case and the law will take its own course. However, police need to submit evidence and documents to the court, she said.

Manjula said though there were eight youths at the homestay during the attack, the image of only one person was beamed on television repeatedly.
“There seems to be a conspiracy here. The media should exercise self-restraint and the government should call a meeting of editors in this regard. The report recommends an investigation into this,” she said.

Of the eight youths, four were party organisers and they had admitted they were drunk at the time of the attack, she said. Drugs too were found at the homestay, but the police have not questioned the partying youth.

Besides, the owner of the homestay, who is a resident of Chikmagalur, has purchased a house at Padil and converted it into a homestay. “This is a cause for suspicion. An inquiry should be conducted against the homestay owner,” she demanded.

She said the mother of one of the youths was arrested on the charges of indulging in illegal activities at a massage centre. The woman was forced to vacate her house, as the local residents complained she was running a brothel. “I have evidence to prove this,” Manjula claimed. – DH News
