Bangalore: With assembly elections likely to be held in the state by May next, almost all major parties like the Congress, BJP and JD(S) are gearing themselves up for the electoral battle.
The parties are rightly conducting a self-introspection and have gauged their fine points as well as weaknesses. The BJP is very well aware that the scandal hit administration marred by corruption and irregularities would surely have an impact on the poll prospects. Already, several BJP leaders right from former CM DV Sadananda Gowda have voiced their concern in this regard and have said that the voters will never forgive the BJP for its follies.
It is true that almost all the three parties are hit hard by factionalism. The BJP is above all and of late there is some groupism even in the Congress with one section demanding a representation to Veerashaiva and Okkaliga community and wants a leader from this community to be made the KPCC Chief by replacing G Parameshwar. However, with the high command not interested in a leadership change, it sure has added to resentment in one faction of the party.
The BJP on its part is still struggling to find a state chief for the party with the present incumbent Eshwarappa already the deputy chief minister. It is crystal clear that the BJP high command is finding it a difficult task with some factions wishing that Yeddyurappa be made the state chief while another faction wants DV Sadananda Gowda in the position. Meanwhile, reports say the Kalladka high command was more interested in projecting Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel as the state chief.
In toto, the high command is in a dilemma. The JD(S) on the other hand is making all out efforts to make its presence felt in the district and will it succeed is a big question.
