Mangalore: District in-charge Minister CT Ravi has instructed the MCC officials to initiate action against those running business establishments without permit and also to collect the tax arrears amounting to Rs 35.22 lakhs from the business establishment during the year 2011-12.
Addressing a progress review meeting at the MCC’s renovated conference hall, the minister warned that the arrears should be collected at the earliest lest the same would be deducted from the salaries of the officials.
An official of the MCC informed that 22, 848 business licenses were given during the period 2011-12 and added Rs 94.93 lakhs has been collected as against the targeted Rs 130.15 lakhs.
Corporators Mariamma Thomas, Appi and a few others complained that there were discrepancies in distribution of the special grant of Rs 100 crore among different wards.
Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Gulzar Banu, Deputy Commissioner Channappa Gowda, Dr KN Vijayaprakash, ZP Chief Executive Officer and others were present.
