Udupi: A senior Congress leader from Udupi Manjunath Udyavar passed away on the morning of August 29, Wednesday at the KMC hospital at Manipal where he was undergoing treatment. Udyavar was ailing since a year.
In a political career spanning 35 years, Manjunath Udyavar has served the Congress in various capacities. He had even served as Secretary to Rajya Sabha Member and AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes. Manjunath is survived by his wife, daughter and a host of admirers in the party.
Apart from being General Secretary of District Congress, he was active in various organizations and was Honorary President of Udyavara Friends’ Circle; Convener of Udyavara Sarvajanika Hindu Rudrabhoomi Sarvajanika Prathisthana; President of Udyavara Grameena Congress Committee; Director for Udyavara Sports Club Tuluvara Balaga Melpete; former Vice President to Udupi Bhaktha Vrinda and Rickshaw Drivers’ Ganeshothsava Committee and member of Railway Suggestion Committee; General Secretary District Congress.
The last rites will be performed on August 30, Thursday morning at Udyavar Public crematorium. It would be followed by a condolence meet by the District Congress Committee.
Several Congress leaders have condoled the death of Manjunath Udyavar.
