Udupi:  Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has said that the police department has plans to install CCTV cameras at strategic points in Manipal in the backdrop of a spurt in crime as well as thefts, drunken driving, drugs peddling and other unlawful activities in Manipal and its vicinity where a number of educational institutions are located.

Speaking at a meeting convened by the Udupi police and Manipal University, he pointed out how reckless driving has led to several accidents resulting in deaths.

He also warned of stern action against those resorting to drugs peddling in the area.

The meeting was attended by several including Manipal University Vice-Chancellor Ramadas Pai, Dr H S Ballal, V K Prabhu and police officials of Udupi, Karkala and other places.
