Bangalore: Even as CM Jagadish Shettar instructed all the MLAs who have already left the nation on a foreign tour to return, another set of 13 MLAs is all set to go ahead with its foreign trip.
Reports say none of the MLAs who are already on a tour are likely to return as they are not in touch with the Assembly secretariat.
The MLAs, all members of the Legislative Assembly Committee for Public Undertaking, are touring South American countries, including Brazil, Argentina and Peru, and are scheduled to return on September 17.
It may be recalled here that the CM’s directive came after the MLAs’tour when the state was reeling under drought invited a lot of criticisms.
On the other hand, the members of the Committee on Papers Laid and the Committee on Petitions led by Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat is likely to leave on September 23 on a tour to US, Canada, Dubai, Moscow, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Israel and Egypt, and return to Bangalore on October 14. Reports say if some members have decided to go ahead, some others have plans to postpone the tour. Interestingly, majority are unwilling to heed to the CM’s dictat.
When contacted Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat said he cannot take a unilateral decision on cancelling the tour and added the committee would be meeting shortly.
