Mangalore : Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that the suspected Naxal who was killed in a police encounter near Subrahamanya recently has been identified as Yellappa from Raichur and that his family members have identified the body.
The IGP said as per police records his name was Yellappa and that he was booked for a murder in 2003 in Sadarbazar police station in Raichur but was acquitted in 2005. The family members however told the police that he had never been home and they were unaware about his whereabouts all these years, the IGP said.
Yellappa hailed from Mandalakere village in Raichur. However, the relatives have not spoken of any missing case being registered anywhere, Mr. Reddy said.
