Udupi:  Increasing cases of of young women in the recent past has been a cause of great concern. If many have gone missing not to be traced, some others are found dead.

On September 11, a 21 year old girl has been reported missing and has not been traced. The girl Shiaranjini had left her house to Manipal to find a job, never to return.

In another case, Sangeetha who was missing on the same day, has been found dead with another man.

In an earlier case, Dhanavanthi (25)  has also been reported missing. Several other cases of missing, has also been reported. In most cases, the whereabouts of the girls are not known.  According to one report, nearly 50 girls have been missing so far. In some cases, the families have been hesitating to  lodge complaint for fear of honour and in some cases, some love affair might be the reason.
