Mangalore : The generator shed of an ice plant near the old Mangalore port was damaged after a goods train went off track on the night of September 19, Wednesday.
However, a major tragedy was averted as most of the workers were not present in the factory at the time of the mishap as it was a holiday on account of Ganesha Chaturthi. At the same time, a few who were in the factory, rushed out on hearing the crashing sound.
Lack of proper lighting arrangements in the area is said to be the cause of the accident and that the driver could not see the end of the track.
The Railway police and mechanics rushed to the spot and took the train back to the station.
