Mangalore : The youth must give their best to the nation while also trying to protect and promote the tradition of the land, said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari ofDharmasthala.
He was speaking after inaugurating the District Youth Convention organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan at the Milagres Jubilee Hall in Mangalore on September 22, Saturday.
Dr Heggade also recalled the contributions of great national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and Vivekananda and exhorted youth to consider such leaders as their role models.
Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M Veerappa Moily who also spoke said the youth power should be channelized in the right direction for the progress of the nation.
Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha Member, also spoke on the occasion. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion included Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Ramantha Rai, DCC President, Manish Karbikar, Mangalore Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Channappa Gowda, Mayor Gulzar Banu, Deputy Mayor Amitha Kala and KN Vijayaprakash, ZP CEO.
Salim Ahmed, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan Director General for Dakshina Kannada, spoke on the activities of the Sanghatan and said it had three lakh clubs in 620 districts across the nation.
A book on the activities of NYKS was released by Veerappa Moily on the occasion. Dr Veerendra Heggade felicitated Salim Ahmed for being appointed as the director general for the district.
