Mangalore: Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes has said that the government was interested in setting up more universities in the nation which will help in providing ample educational opportunities to the students and will bring about the much needed change in the supply and demand factor.
He was speaking at a programme organized by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mangalore on September 22, Saturday. Oscar further said the government feels the nation needs 1500 more universities. He also said the concept of setting up of a knowledge village in DK will also looked into.
He also stated that the government wants to bring best foreign universities into India taking advantage of the Foreign Educational Institutions Regulation Act.
On this occasion, KCCI President Mohammad Ameen submitted a memorandum to Oscar enlisting various demands of the Chamber including granting of autonomy to colleges, setting up of more universities, exemption of service tax to educational institutions for construction of buildings and setting up of a full ledged air cargo complex at Mangalore Airport.
