Mangalore: World Mental Health Day was observed at the Pediatric Centre of Wenlock Hospital on October 10, Wednesday. The theme of the Day is ‘Depression- a global crisis.”The programme was organized by department of psychiatry, KMC along with Wenlock district hospital and Manaswini, Thunga Institute of Psychiatry. Various contests like poster making, paper presentation, psychiatry quiz were held for the special students.
Dr Ravish Thunga, professor and HOD of Psychiatry, KMC, Dr Keshav Pai, associate professor, KMC, Dr Supriya Hegde, Dr Arun Rao among others were present on the occasion.
In Udupi: World Mental Health Day was also observed in Udupi. Dr PV Bhandary addressed a workshop organized for journalists as part of the day.
He said depression at its worst leads to suicide and that as many as one million lives are lost every year owing to suicides, and as many as 3000 suicides are accounted for every day.
