Mangalore: Senior Indian National Congress leader and AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes said that Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi will participate in the congress workers convention scheduled at Town Hall on October 18, Thursday.
He was speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office on October 16, Tuesday. He also said that this programme will have a direct contact with the workers at the grass root level.
He also said that the presidents of Bhoot level, Panchayath members, corporators, candidates and other congress leaders will be encouraged to work for the party through the convention.
There is only one seat in the state for the congress candidate, but there are number of opportunities for the congress activists to be the president for bhoot level, women’s wing, youth wing, Seva Dal, NSUI, SC/ ST wing, Minorities Wing, Workers wing and others, he said.
Mr Fernandes said that Panchayath election is the difficult election and the party must target the youths so that senior people will also join hands with the party along with their children.
Instead of fighting for the Assembly and corporation election, we must build two groups in the party and concentrate on the working and publicity of party above the bhooth level and below it.
There is lot of advancement in technology and we must make use of it for the publicity of the party and taking to the height, he said.
Further the party must work to provide BPL card and Ration card to the poor and also houseless people who are in need of it.
Congress President B Ramanath Rai, Blossom Fernandes, Shashidhar Hegde, Mayor Gulzar Banu, Narayan, Kodijal Ibrahim, Ivan D’Souza, Mithun Rai and others were present at the press meet.
