Mangalore: The CPI(M) staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on October 30, Tuesday condemning the increasing atrocities on women and minors in the nation. The protest was organised as part of a nationwide protest organized by the party.
Addressing the agitators, CPIM District Secretary B Madhava alleged that the government as well as the police department have miserably failed in protecting women. He also cited the instance of Haryana where maximum number of atrocity cases against women were reported. He said the CPIM was thus holding a nationwide protest against this.
J.A Srirama Reddy, State Secretary of CPIM who also spoke said it was regretting that the atrocities on women was soaring in a nation which held women in high esteem and revered them. He also stated that the National Crime Bureau report of 2011-12 in this regard is shocking. He further pointed out how age never came into consideration when it came to atrocities on women and demanded stern action against the guilty in such cases. He also warned that the CPIM would resort to more severe means of protest if the government failed to initiate action.
CPIM leaders Vasantha Achari, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others took part in the protest.
