Mangalore: The railway crossing remains closed for long hours every day, inconveniencing the people taking a shortcut to the city from the by pass road to NH 17.
On Tuesday, the gates were closed at 4 am (down) and due to technical problems of the Railways, the gate was not opened for traffic for long time, which irritated regular passerby and Tulunadu Rakshana Sene activists, who have earlier argued with the watchmen over the delay, to no effects. The railwaymen did not co-operate with the common people or with T.R. Sene men.
Two – wheeler riders use a smaller way near the crossing but have to lift their vehicles quickly to move to the other side, before a running train could blow them up with their vehicles.
There is a long-standing demand for an over bridge at the spot to avoid physical accidents, but people wanting to cross tracks have not evoked any response from Railway engineers.
