Mangalore: Severe cold wave conditions prevailed over some parts of north-Interior Karnataka and some parts of South Interior Karnataka. Cold wave condition will prevail over parts of north-interior Karnataka during the night, Indian Meteorological Department sources said. Due to cold wave condition, Karnataka is experiencing below normal minimum temperature, Bangalore based KSNDMC director VS Prakash said.
Lowest minimum temperature 8.4°C is recorded in Khanapur hobli in Khanapur taluk, Belgaum District on November 20 at 7am, which is 8.5°C less than the normal (extreme event – 9.3 °C on November 28, 1964). Dry weather prevailed over the state in the last 24-hours up to 8.30am on Tuesday. North-East monsoon was weak over Karnataka. Light rain was reported over one district, very light rain in 13 districts, and no rain in 16 districts.
Karnataka for the period October 1 to November 19 recorded deficit rainfall of 17%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 170mm in south-interior, north-interior, malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 141mm. For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on November 19, four geographical regions received 0mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 1mm, a deficit of 100%.-Times of India
