Mangalore: A delegation led by Dr K Mohandas Bhandary from Magalore, has participated in a international leadership seminar on Tobacco Control in India held in New Delhi recently. The delegation included Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Yogish Bhat, UT Khader, MLA, Dr Ashwath Narayan, Dr Vishal Rao, Director of Cancer Prevention Project and AdditionaL DG AM Prasad. The seminar was sponsored by John Hopkins School of Public Health in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The seminar aimed at developing a better understanding of the need for tobacco control. As a group leader, Dr. Bhandary, presented overview of Karnataka State Cigarette and other Tobacco products Act 2003 (COTPA)
Several dignitaries and experts including Dr. Nata Menabde, WHO representative; Keshav Desiraju, Special Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Ms. Shakunthala Gamlin, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Sri Adur Prakash, Revenue Minister of Kerala, Education Minister of Bihar and Health Ministers of other states took part in the seminar.
