Mangalore : A notorious gangster Bejai Raja (46) was hacked to death on the ground floor of a commercial complex at Falnir on the night of Saturday, December 1. The deceased was wanted in connection with several criminal cases  including two murders. Meanwhile, reports say the police have detained four persons in connection with the case. Their identity is yet to be known.

It is said a group of three to four assailants who arrived by two-wheelers pounced on Raja with machetes as he stepped out of his car and was talking to someone at a coin phone booth.

Reports say the deceased gangster was an accused in the Pandu Pai murder case and it is said that he was killed by notorious gangster Ravi Poojari aides in order to avenge the killing of Pandu.  The assailants had abandoned the machetes before fleeing the scene of the crime.

Senior police officials are investigating the case.
