Mangalore : N K Mohan Kumar convenor of Food Conservation Campaign Committee said that the committee has been launched campaign ‘We have Right to eat but not to throw it’ to avoid wastage of food in the state.
He was speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 7, Friday. He said that, this awareness campaign was launched in Kushalnagar of Kodagu District.
He also said that the idea of the campaign was started when he saw two women throwing left over delicious food by the people wedding ceremony. The sight of wasting food was hurting a lot since there are many poor people who were not getting sufficient food to eat like him.
He said that he had started a food security jatha by organising essay and speech competition for school and college students in Kodagu district and around 20,000 students have participated in the competition and created awareness among the students of their institution, as a part of campaign.
Mohan had also printed handouts, banners and flex to create awareness among people near public functions, marriage ceremony, educational institution, house warming ceremonies and other places in many districts.
He said that zilla panchayats of Madikeri and Davangere have implemented a regulation in this regard while the issue is neglected across the country. Hence further to implement this system throughout the state, he will be visiting every Zilla Panchayath in every district to disseminate the information of wastage of Food, he added.
