Udupi: The last rites of Jacintha Saldanha, the UK based Indian nurse who reportedly committed suicide after she attended a prank call at the King Edward VII Hospital in London, will be performed at Shirva church at 4 pm on December 17, Monday.
The rituals will be held under the leadership of Udupi Bishop Rev. Fr Gerald Isaac Lobo. The body will be taken in a procession to Shirva church.Preparations for the last rites at the Shirva church are complete.
Earlier, the mortal remains of Jacintha were brought to Mangalore by a Jet Airways flight on December 16, Sunday. From there it was taken to the KMC Hospital in Manipal. Jacintha’s husband Benedict Barboza, children Junal and Lisha have also arrived.
Meanwhile, former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda visited the Shirva residence of Saldanha and consoled the grieving family members. Lalaji R Mendon, Kaup MLA, Katapady Shanker Poojari, former ZP Chief, Geetanjali Suvarna, Nayana Ganesh, Yashpal A Suvarna and others were present.
