Mangalore : At the Zilla Panchayat meeting held here on January 3, Thursday, District Health Officer Dr OR Srirangappa said there have been complaints of cancer and mental illness from people living  in the vicinity f mobile towers in four taluks of the district.

He was responding to an issue on mobile tower hazards raised b ZP member Santosh Kumar Rai at the meeting, Rai pointed out that  in some places, a single mobile tower had the antennae of different mobile companies and added these increased the risk of greater emission from radiation.

The DHO said the survey was on  and added in Mangalore taluk it is yet to be undertaken. He said once the report was complete, it would be submitted to the authorities concerned.

Mangalore MLA UT Khader urged for steps to see that the construction of houses for Koraga beneficiaries was expedited. He also requested for early release of funds for the same. He also wanted to know the amount spent on social responsibility by the corporate companies.
Opposition members took exception to the dissolution of the Hirebandadi gram panchayat.
