Mangalore : The tracks between Sakleshpuar and Subrahamanya have been repaired on January 4, Friday using modern cranes from Mysore. The Yashwanthpur-Kannur Express train (16517) was derailed between Sakleshpur and Subrahamanya on Friday morning.
If several trains were cancelled on Friday, even the Karwar-Yashwanthpur Express (16516) will remain cancelled on January 5, Saturday owing to shortage of bogies, a Southern Railway communiqué said.
KR Sriyan, CPI(M) leader who was also travelling in the train says the passengers remained stranded for almost four hours in the tunnel route and reached Mangalore six hours late. He also says the train derailed at a very dangerous location and the entire train would have slipped had the engine moved even a little forward.
One of the passengers Devika complained that no proper arrangements had been made for the stranded passengers to return. The railway authorities left the passengers upto Sakleshur railway station from where they walked toil the bus stand. No bus arrangement had been done and passengers had to travel in whichever bus which came that way, she said.
