Mangalore: Students of Mangalore University too have joined the protest against rising atrocities on women. A protest march was taken out and a demonstration staged in the university campus urging the university authorities safer for women students.
They also demanded a probe into the allegations of harassment of a few research students by their research guides.
The agitators also demanded laws that give stern punishment to rapists. A request was also made to set up a grievance centre in the university to help female students lodge harassment cases.
Hilson D’Souza, President of the University Students Council, addressed the agitators. He demanded recruitment of security personnel to make the women’s hostel and nearby areas safe.
A memorandum enlisting five point demands was also submitted to Vice Chancellor Prof. TC Shivashankeramurthi.
