Mangalore : The District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest in front of the DC office in Mangalore on January 11, Friday demanding steps to ensure safety of women in the backdrop of the rising violence against women.
Speaking on the occasion, B Madhava, District Secretary of CPI(M) said the whole nation condemned the brutal gang rape of a Delhi student in a moving bus. Here in our own district too Sowjanya was brutally raped and murdered in a village, he said and added that there was a need for the governments to check violence against women on a war footing by taking several measures like setting up of fast track courts and stern punishment to the people responsible for crime against women.
Several leaders including Vasanth Achary, KR Sriyan, Balakrishna Shetty, Yadava Shetty, Krishnappa Salian took part in the protest.
