Mangalore : As many as 99 children belonging to single parent families were provided financial aid to pursue their education, on behalf of the District Children’s Protection Unit.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash distributed the cheques to the students and urged them to continue their studies with dedication. The cheques were provided to children of single parent families whose annual income is below Rs 24,000.
District Child Protection Officer Gracy Gonsalves who also spoke said the Unit was formed last year in April. Explaining reason for the delay in distribution of aid though a grant of Rs 2 lakh was sanctioned by the government last September itself, the Officer said the department took some time to select and finalize the list of beneficiaries.
Asha Nayak, CWC Chairperson, Dr KN Vijayaprakash, CEO of DK ZP were also present.
