Mangalore : Guest lecturers serving in various Government First Grade Colleges in DK, Udupi and Kodagu districts, on February 4, Monday took out a protest march from the Government PU College at Jyothi Circle to the D C office demanding justice to the guest lecturers.
A protest meet held in front of the DC office later was inaugurated by Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat by garlanding the portrait of former president Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.
Later, addressing the protestors, Punaroor said he was always ready to hold talks with the government on the issue of injustice done to the guest lecturers and said it was shameful on the part of the government for harassing the lecturers by not paying the salaries on time.
He said though the guest lecturers were demanding a monthly salary of Rs 15000, that was very less and said all out efforts would be made to pressurize the government to increase their salary.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District President of the Sahitya Parishat also assured all out efforts to pressurize the government to fulfill the demands of the guest lecturers.
Several guest lecturers from DK, Udupi and Kodagu districts took part in the protest.
Some of their demands include payment of their pending wages, to give priority to seniority while selecting guest lecturers, to consider the seniority of guest lecturers during KPSC selection and to regularize the services of the guest lecturers.
Mr. Chandrashekar, President, Guest Lecturers Union, Mr. Ananda Poojari, State Converner, Mr.Panduranga, President, Udupi Taluk, Mr. Keshava, Guest Lecturers Union Secretary were also Present.
