Udupi: The National Highway in Udupi district has been converted into an accident zone with the place registering as many as 54 accidents resulting in 12 deaths in just one month.
If five accidents were reported in Udupi town police station limits, six mishaps were registered in Padubidri police stations. These accidents claimed four lives while one person was injured. In Kaup station limits, there were 12 accidents and for deaths and over ten injuries. Brahmavar and Kota police station limits saw 9 road accidents, two deaths and 19 injuries. In Kundapur, there were been eight accidents and eight injures. In Bunder, nine accidents claimed one life and left 11 injured. In Gangolli there were eight accidents resulting in one death and five injuries.
One complaint is that the half completed highway works was resulting in accidents more so because newcomers on the road are definitely to land in confusion. There is a need for the authorities to put up sign boards which help as indicators during night time.
The highest number of accidents took place in Kaup and Padubidri station limits ever since the NH works began. Eight persons have died in accidents here in the past one month. The diversions and curves on the stretch many a time lands drivers in confusion. And not to forget rash and negligent driving many a time leads to accidents. On many occasions, failure to adhere to traffic rules result in accidents.
