Kundapur :   There has been clash between villagers of Hattiangady over the issue of a water tank and well, If some wanted a water tank  which was neglected to be developed , others demanded  a well and this led to a  heated argument during a protest  organised by a few villages demanding a well . They even locked up the panchayat office and  the  office of the village accountant. Some others too protested demanding a tank.

The agitators demanded that their request be fulfilled and the DC visited the venue to solve the impasse. Police too rushed to the occasion. When things failed to settle,  Yogishwar, AC and Yashoda, DySP met the agitated villagers and decided to dig the well sanctioned under police security.

Gram panchayat members, Muttaiah Kanyana, Prabhakar Shetty, Totabail Santosh Shetty, Srinivas Ganiga, Ashok Devadiga, and several others led the protest.

However, those who were holding protest demanding a tank alleged t hat their demands went unheard and the decision to sink the well was taken without considering the ground realities.   The problem arose after the Hattiangady gram panchayat decided to dig a well close by a tank which is in a neglected state. The people who wanted a tank said already there were two wells and another well would  mean depletion of water resources available for irrigation.
