Mangalore : If the JD(S) had demanded the rejection of the nomination of Congress candidate from Jeppu ward Appi on February 25, Monday, it is now learnt that even the BJP had demanded the rejection of a Congress candidate from 29 Kambla ward.
The BJP candidate from the ward Naveenchandra had complained that the Cognress candidate Ganesh Poojari was a tenant in the MCC Commercial complex and had also not paid his rent since several months. The election officer had then said he would announce his decision on Tuesday.
Accordingly on Tuesday morning at 11 am the election officer declared that the nomination of Ganesh Poojari was accepted on the grounds that he had provided cheques towards payment of pending rent and also that the MCC had not served any notice to him regarding the pending rent.
Later speaking to reporters, Congress leader Ivan D’Souza, said the BJP act was with ulterior motives and could not succeed. But, KS Sharma, advocate for the BJP candidate Naveenchandra said as per the Karnataka Municipal Act, any person who is a tenant of the city corporation or is associated with the MCC cannot contest elections. He also said the BJP would move the court in the event of Ganesh winning the elections.
