New Delhi : At least 17 people were detained on Saturday for destroying and damaging government vehicles and property after the rape of a 7-year-old girl in Delhi government school in Mangolpuri.

Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed as precautionary measure in Mangolpuri.

An enquiry by a four member team has been ordered by the MCD North Commissioner. The victim meanwhile has been discharged from hospital. The doctors add that the child didn’t have any serious injuries but is under severe mental trauma.

The minor girl, a student of standard II, was raped inside the premises of a municipal school run by North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Police said the incident took place on Thursday morning during lunch break. The girl was in the classroom when the assailant overpowered her. Three people have been detained for questioning. And sources in the police claim that an arrest is imminent.

The incident sparked massive anger and there was violence on the streets as an irate mob targeted public transport and indulged in stone-pelting.
