Mangalore : The BJP is going to the polls this time with a high agenda –“Commendable Achievement, All-round Development and Collective Progress.” The BJP which rose to power for the first time in the history of Mangalore City Corporation in the 2007 elections, hopes to regain power for the second successive time this year. The concretization of some of the main roads in Mangalore with the help of the Rs 100 crore special grants sanctioned by the state government is one of the noteworthy achievements of the BJP tenure in the MCC.
The party has the satisfaction of providing a good administration to the MCC in the past five year period and strongly feels that its various corporators have tried their level best to meet the expectations of the voters of their respective wards. The BJP is going to the polls this time promising yet another tenure of efficient administration and ensuring a beautiful clean and green Mangalore.
The party has fielded its candidates in all the 60 wards of Mangalore, and hopes to win a majority even this time. It has fielded able and enthusiastic candidates who, the party feel would make it proud by emerging victorious.
Diwaker-46 Cantonment Ward, Pandeshwar
The BJP candidate from the prominent 46 Cantonment Ward Pandeshwar is Diwaker who is a popular personality in the area who is also known as a social worker. He has not restricted his activities merely to politics but has also laid his hands in social, educational and religious activities.
Diwaker had developed leadership qualities right since his student days and has served the BJP as its local unit Chief and as Yuva Mora President. He has also been in the lead in organizing blood donation camps and has inspired many by himself donating blood.
He was chosen corporator of this ward last time at a time when the area has not seen much progress.But, his election saw some good changes in the ward. Roads were concretized and asphalted and drinking water supply situation improved.
He is known in the locality as an enthusiast and able candidate who honestly strives for the betterment of his ward.
Anil Kumar Rao 36 Padavu East Ward
Anil Kumar Rao, an enthusiastic youngster is the BJP candidate from 36 Padavu East Ward. An entrepreneur, Rao is a diploma holder and is active in social, religious and cultural fields. As Director of a rural development institute he has been organizing health awareness camps, medical camps and vocational training camps for rural youth thereby help them achieve self reliance.
Also the Director of Aadhar Seva Trust, he has been serving the society through the Trust. An active BJP worker, he is also the ward unit President and has effectively handled the responsibility. He has also helped many in availing the benefits of government schemes and has been working under the guidance of Legislators Yogish Bhat and Krishna Palemar.
Shantha R-12 Panjimogaru Ward
Shantha R, a sitting Corporator from Panjimogaru ward is known as a simple and approachable lady elected representative who has made her mark in politics as a corporator by being instrumental in taking up various developmental works in her ward.
During her tenure she has left no stone unturned in ensuring that people of her ward did not suffer from any inconvenience. She has been successful in initiating projects worth over Rs 12 crore in her constituency. Shantha has also been successful in ensuring sanction of a full-fledged fish market, drinking water facility in bus shelter and such other schemes in her ward.
She is also an office bearer of BJP Mahila Morcha and is the president of the local unit of the BJP and pledges to develop her ward into a model ward if elected.
Sudhir Shetty -52 Kannur ward
The BJP candidate from 52 Kannur ward is a simple man who has the service of the people of his ward upper most in his mind. A friendly personality, he has served as Panchayat member from Kannur ward for one term and was later elected corporator from Kannur ward.
During his tenure, he was instrumental in initiating various developmental works in his constituency, with aid from the MP, MLA funds and has improved the basic amenities in the area and also saw to it that grants were sanctioned for PHCs, Anganavadi Kendras, open air auditorium and such other projects.
He has also evinced interest in asphaltation of main as well as interior roads of his ward, laying of interlocks to narrow roads and above all to maintain cleanliness.
Sudhir Shetty has also served as standing committee Member for one term and is also the General Secretary of Mangalore South unit of the BJP.
If elected to power, Sudhir Shetty has a vision of developing the Kannur ward by taking the entire electorate into confidence.
Tilakraj (4-Katipalla Krishnapura Ward)
Tilakraj is the sitting corporator from the Katipalla Krishnapura Ward No. 4 of the MCC, and has been given another chance by the party to contest from the same ward.
Known to be a good organizer and a man with great leadership qualities, Tilakraj has served as the Organizing Secretary of the local unit of the Yuva Morcha. He later on served as the Secretary of the assembly constituency unit and as Yuva Morcha President for two terms.
The party considering and recognsing his efficiency has also given him a chance to be nominated member for one term and he is presently the district Yuva Morcha Secretary.
Tilakraj who has done various works as per the wishes of the electorate of his ward, has an aspiration to serve his ward with much more vigour if the voters give him another chance this time.
Roopa D Bangera -32 Kadri North
Roopa D Bangera, the BJP candidate from Kadri North Ward has the credit of securing win for the BJP from the ward in the previous elections. A soft spoken Roopa attributes her victory last time to the hard works of the party men and also the confidence which the voters reposed on her.
She is known to be a woman of grit who effectively handles any problem with ingenuity and cleverness and is popularly known as ‘Roopakka’ for people of her ward. She has served as the President of the Standing Committee on Tax, Appeal and Finance . Her efficiency is proved by the fact that the party had chosen her as its mayor candidate for the last year of its term.
Hailing from a family of social workers, she has been successful in solving several problems of her ward. She has also played a key role in setting up the Gundalike Nagarika Seva Trust that worked towards constructing a building for a Local Anganavadi. The credit of developing Kadri North ward as a well-developed ward goes to her. She has tried her level best to be the voice of the people of her ward and assures that she will continue her good works if elected once again.
Mahesh Rai-Idya West -7 Ward
Mahesh Rai, the BJP candidate from Idya West Ward No 7 is considered a very efficient and able candidate from the ward. An old student of the Govinda Dasa College, Suratkal, Rai had incorporated good leadership qualities right since his student days and had even served as President of the Students Union of the College.
Actively involved in social service activities he is also a member f Karnataka Seva Vrinda ad is known to be a simple and courteous man. Rai aspires to develop the ward with all vigour and enthusiasm and solve the problems faced by the electorate by dedicating himself to their service.
