Mangalore : A peace rally was taken out from the St Ann’s educational institutions campus to condemn the recent brutal murder of 22 year old Sowmya of Kalladka. Students and teachers also offered a silent prayer in memory of Sowmya, who was an alumnus of St Ann’s Teachers Training Institute, Mangalore.
CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak who spoke on the occasion, called upon women to constantly fight against atrocities. There can be no justice to victims of crime against women unless a voice is raised against it, she said.
Referring to the several cases of atrocities on women, Asha Nayak said society remembers the atrocities a few days and then conveniently forgets the same. This should not be the case and instead the society should lend its helping hand to the victims to come out of the trauma, she added.
The peace rally from the College Campus proceeded via Corporation Bank Circle, AB Shetty Circle, State Bank Road and returned to the campus. The rally was led by Sr Edna Furtado AC, Secretary of the Apostolic Carmel Education Society, Karnataka Province and Joint Secretary Dr Sr Lydia Fernandes.
