Udupi: Elections to the Udupi CMC as well as urban local bodies of Kundapur, Saligrama and Karkala began on March 7 at 7 am amid tight police security.
Rajya Sabha Member and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes was among the first few who cast their votes at the Ambalpady Aided Higher Primary School.
A total of 88 booths have been set up for elections to the 35 wards in the Udupi CMC limits. Election is held for a total of 23 wads in Kundapur. A total of 23 booths have been set up in Kundapur.
In Saligrama Panchayat 14 booths have been set up for the 14 wards for which elections are held.
The total number of voters in Udupi CMC limits is 75,518, while in Kundapur TMC limits there are 19,482 voters. There are 16487 an 10966 voters in Karkala and Saligrama respectively.
