Udupi : The Congress victory in Udupi CMC election is historic as this is the first time in the history of the CMC that the Congress is rising to power. Of the total 35 wards, the Congress has won in 22, while the BJP has been restricted to 12 seats and a major setback. Independents bagged one seat.

In the previous CMC the BJP had bagged 28 seats and Congress 6 and independent one.

The victorious BJP candidates are : ), Mahesh Takoor (Iswarnagara), Narashima Nayak (Manipal), Naveen Bhandari (Chitapadi), Shyamprasad Kudwa (Thenkupete), Geetha Ravi Shet (Volakadu), Yaspal Suvarna (Ajjarkad), Vasanthi Shetty (Ambalpadi). Vijay Kundar (Malpe Central), Rashmitha Balakrishna Shetty (Nittoor), Dinakar Shetty (Shettybettu), Sumithra R Nayak (ParkalaThe congress also won in Karkala Town Municipal Council. In Kundapur Town Municipal Council and Saligrama Town Panchayat elections the BJP has emerged as the single largest party. Harishram the Independent candidate won from Bannaje.

The Janata Dal (Secular) BSR Congress and KJP   have failed to secure even a single seat.
