Mangalore : Several office bearers of the Hindu Jana Jagrithi Samithi had convened a press meet in Mangalore on April 9, Tuesday to urge people to celebrate Ugadi in accordance to customs and traditions.
They also urged the people to shun the Western style New Year celebrations. However, the Samithi members had to struggle to find an answer when scribes hurled several questions at them. Journalists asked if the local Bisu celebrations which is New Year for people of the district and whether Ugadi of April 11 should be considered a foreign celebration.
The Samithi members failed to give a satisfactory reply to the questions.
