Mangalore : Ahinda President Lolaksha who convened a press meet here on April 12, Friday, expressed his deep concern over the recent gas tanker tragedy at Perne that claimed eight lives.
He urged the district administration to initiate steps to prevent such mishaps in the future. He also took strong exception to the failure of the administration as well as the Oil companies to immediately come to the aid of those affected by the mishap.
He also urged the administration to make it compulsory for tankers carrying inflammable materials to have GPS and fitted with speed governors. Such a step can avert such mishaps, he said.
He also pointed out that by the time the HPCL authorities reached the spot of the mishap, the fire had been doused by the fire service personnel with the help of police.
Lolaksha also urged the administration to provide good medical treatment to the injured and steps to rehabilitate them.
He further said the Ahinda will block all tankers passing through Perne if the administration failed to respond to its demands.
