Mangalore : Speaking at an interaction meet organized by KCCI, JT Radhakrishna, Director Mangalore International Airport, revealed that a new air cargo complex will be fully operational by May 1. Calling Manglorean business community to fully utilise the facility, Radhakrishna stressed that it will open up a window of opportunities for the vast quantity of perishable goods to be air lifted quickly to all parts of the globe specially middle-east and European countries.
Giving an account of performance of Mangalore International Airport, he said that for the first time in the history of the Mangalore airport, the passenger movement crossed one million mark for the year 2012- 2013 and the gross revenue crossed Rs. 50. Crores and operational profit to 16 crores.
Srinivas Phani, AC of Customs, Mangalore, said that all entry and exit procedures would be supervised as per the norms of customs act 1962. The charges for Cargo export will be Rs.0.76 per kg and Rs.125 per consignment and Rs. 4.96 per kg and Rs.135 per consignment for Cargo import. The cold storage facility inside the Airport will be ready in the near future. Soon all procedures including payment and processing will be electronically handled he said.
Melwin D’Silva, Station Manager, Air India, Mangalore, said that there is a vast scope for the export of goods to middle eastern countries because the connectivity from Mangalore is very good at present and rates have been established for all sectors. Air line will allow two tones of Cargo per flight.
