Mangalore : The district administration has installed CCTV cameras in five out of the 12 checkposts in the district in order to ensure better surveillance during the impending Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters here the SP said the checkposts at Farangipete, Jalsoor, Suradka, Gundya and Charmady will be equipped with CCTV Cameras which will be monitored at the district headquarters. The cameras will have a recording capacity that can last a whole month.
The SP said the police have seized Rs 21 lakhs in cash in five cases and the cash was reportedly supposed to be used during election campaigning.
He said in all 933 polling booths come under the jurisdiction of the district police department. The Central Para Military Force, Excise Squad, Coastal Security Forces and forest guards have also been deployed, he said.\ As many as 700-800 police personnel would be exercising their franchise through postal ballot, the DC said.
